Horizontal Coating Line
Turnkey automated system for general metal parts at high volume
The Horizontal Coating Line is a complete automated finishing system that carries metal parts horizontally through every stage of the powder-coating process, from cleaning to cured finish, on a single integrated conveyor. It is built for production coating of components like cabinets, frames, panels, enclosures, and structural steel, where consistent throughput and a repeatable result matter more than single-part flexibility. If you are bringing finishing in-house or replacing a batch process with continuous production, this line ties the stages together so parts flow without manual transfer between steps.
Process stages and layout
The line runs the full sequence: an integrated pretreatment tunnel cleans and prepares the parts, automatic reciprocator spray applies the powder, and a continuous curing oven cross-links the finish. Because the layout is customizable, the line can be configured to fit your building footprint and part mix rather than forcing your plant to fit a fixed design. Sequencing pretreatment, coating, and cure on one conveyor removes the handling and staging that separate batch steps require, which cuts labor and the risk of parts being contaminated or damaged between stations.
Conveyor and throughput
Parts are carried on a Power and Free or overhead conveyor. An overhead conveyor moves work in a steady continuous loop, while a Power and Free system allows parts to be stopped, buffered, and released independently, which is useful when different stages need different dwell times or when you want to accumulate work ahead of a stage. The conveyor choice shapes throughput and how flexibly the line can be sequenced, so it is matched to your production pattern during configuration. Horizontal travel suits long or flat parts that hang and move naturally along the line.
Powder recovery
Overspray from the automatic spray stage is captured through a cyclone plus filter recovery system. The cyclone separates the bulk of the reclaimable powder from the air stream for reuse, while the after-filter captures the fine particulate the cyclone does not, so extraction air is cleaned before it leaves the system. Recovering powder on a continuous line is essential to operating economics, because the line consumes powder every minute it runs, and reclaiming overspray keeps material cost per part down across long production hours.
Pretreatment and curing integration
The pretreatment tunnel is built into the line, so parts are cleaned and prepared in sequence rather than washed separately and carried over, which protects adhesion and finish durability. The curing oven is configured as either a straight tunnel or a U-turn: a U-turn oven folds the cure zone back on itself to save floor length, while a straight tunnel suits plants with the room to run the oven in a line. As covered in our guide on gas versus electric curing ovens, the heat source you choose affects running cost and ramp behavior, and the oven is sized to bring parts to the typical 180 to 200 C powder cure and hold them long enough to fully cross-link.
Where it fits in your line
The Horizontal Coating Line is itself the line: pretreatment, coating booth, recovery, and curing oven are integrated into one continuous system rather than bought and connected as separate units. Your decisions are in the configuration: conveyor type to match throughput, oven layout and heat source to fit your floor and energy supply, and reciprocator-mounted automatic guns to apply the powder consistently across your part range. Feed the cyclone-reclaimed powder through a sieving center back to the guns, and set conveyor speed so the pretreatment, spray, and cure stages stay balanced and no single stage holds up the rest.
